The book presents ten ancestral houses, including Howard, Boyer, Bellett, Sutton, Alderton, Batt, Ryan, Collins, Vincent and Smith, while examining genealogy, migration, historical records, family survival and ancestral memory. It follows Jacob Bellett and Ann Harper as central figures in the early Australian story and connects their experiences with the wider family lineage.
